KONOMIE

THE MOTHERLAND

Have you ever been barefoot on the grass and felt refreshed with a calming sensation that soothes your body?

Your mind? Your soul?

Imagine living on an island where life elsewhere does not matter - and the island is your motherland.

Free of violence. Free of compromise. Free of power.

The land itself comforts you with breathtaking views, clear aqua sea and offers a sense of connectedness. You would feel safe. You would feel secure – you would know it is home.

BUT not  -  for the Woppaburra.

THE TRUTH

The Australian Museum collection holds 27 objects from the Keppel Island Group, the ancestral/traditional island homelands of the Woppaburra People. These include body ornaments, tools, dolls and pigments. Dr Walter E. Roth collected the majority of these objects in 1897. Click on photos for additional information, including the traditional Woppaburra language names.
